    Dubai Psychologist

Cabrière is a South African counselling psychologist who is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, as well as the Community Development Authority in Dubai.  After obtaining her undergraduate and Psychology Honours degrees at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, she completed her first Master’s degree and explored the field of family resilience. Cabrière then moved to Port Elizabeth to complete a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, which was awarded cum laude.

Cabrière has experience in a wide variety of settings, including private practice, corporate settings and educational institutions such as universities and schools.

Cabrière considers people holistically as they move through their life stages and she works with clients across the lifespan.

She focuses not only on problem areas, but also on aspects of resilience or strength. Therapeutically, she adopts a relationship-focused integrative approach where the collaborative relationship between the therapist and the client forms the foundation of therapy. Cabrière finds that an integrative approach allows her to consider the unique characteristics of every client and tailor the therapy to suit the client and the unique relationship between the therapist and client. She believes that the therapeutic relationship is not only a necessary condition for psychological growth and change, but that it also consists of moments of real meeting which act as the therapy itself.

Carl Rogers said that the “process of the good life is not a life for the faint-hearted. It involves the stretching and growing of becoming more and more of one’s potentialities. It involves the courage to be. It means launching oneself fully into the stream of life.” As we launch ourselves into this stream of life, we often experience many changes, obstacles and challenges.  Cabrière provides a secure, trusting and nurturing relationship to support her clients as they encounter challenges or want to get to know themselves better. Some of these challenges could include, but are not limited to, low self-esteem, struggles with identity, emotional regulation, trauma, life changes, loss and grief, relationship difficulties, divorce or separation, parenting difficulties, academic difficulties, work stress, burnout, adjustment to illness or disability, anxiety disorders and mood disorders such as depression.

As children often express themselves, reveal problems and relieve anxiety through play, Cabrière provides play therapy where she creates a secure and nurturing environment for children to express thoughts, feelings and deal with stress or trauma.  Play therapy furthermore provides children with a space to build self-esteem, as well as develop problem-solving and coping skills. Cabrière is also trained in psychological and psychometric tests and provides psychological services in English and Afrikaans.
