    EEG (Electroencephalography)

If you're experiencing seizures, epilepsy, or other neurological conditions, you may need an EEG (Electroencephalography) test to help diagnose the problem. EEG is a non-invasive test that measures the electrical activity of the brain through electrodes placed on the scalp. It's a safe and painless procedure that can provide valuable information about the functioning of your brain.

    What is an EEG (Electroencephalography)

The EEG (Electroencephalography) is a diagnostic method designed for the measuring of brain activity. Variations of voltage are deduced from the brain thus allowing inferences to the neurotransmission of the brain. The measurements are taken off of the surface of the patient’s head by way of electrode pads. The obtained waves are reproduced in a diagram.

The EEG (Electroencephalography) is needed for example to diagnose epilepsy (seizure disorder), encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), tumours of the brain, but also in case of headaches of all kinds, such as migraine, or unexplained vision disorders, imbalance etc.

Knowing from long years of experience that neurological or psychiatric illnesses are very often considered to be better not mentioned or talked about, we would nonetheless like to introduce you briefly to the world of neurology and psychiatry. There are no other medical sciences that have achieved more progress and improvement over the past decades than these. Especially the “Decade of the brain” led to a definite change for the better in diagnostics and therapies. Today we can offer a wide range of modern diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities for nearly all psychiatric and neurological disorders. Yet, when it comes to neurological deficits or mental illness there are still many prejudices and unnecessary fears prevalent.

Whereas usually everybody accepts the fact that illness is normal and happens to everyone from time to time, normal illnesses are most often considered to be solely physical such as a broken leg, colds, diarrhea or similar. Diabetes mellitus is as normal an illness as is backache or headache.

Illnesses of the brain, the psyche or neurological deficiencies are also as normal as any other illnesses and moreover, they are not only very common but on the increase. Their patterns may sometimes be worrying or frightening but this is largely due to a huge lack of information in general public.

According to the study “The Global Burden of disease” carried out by the WHO (World Health Organization) depression for instance is the most important disease of all, more important even than diseases of the heart, asthma or cancer. And yet, the majority of people suffering from depression do not seek professional help or are not treated sufficiently. We should therefore not only like to contribute to health education but we offer practical help and assistance to everyone suffering from or fearing psychiatric and/or neurological disorders.

    Leading Neurofeedback Center

Neurofeedback - also called EEG-Biofeedback - is a scientifically proven brain training to improve certain functions of the brain. Patients learn to change their brain waves to enhance certain skills, such as concentration, memory, top performance, creativity, relaxation, etc. Since more than 15 years the German Neuroscience Center is the leading clinic for Neurology, Psychiatry and Psychology in the UAE. We are offering the highest quality Neurofeedback treatment with the leading Neurofeedback experts in the region.

Which Disorders Are Treated With Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a painless and non-invasive procedure that has been used for a variety of diseases for over 30 years.

    • ADHD, ADD - Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorders (Evidence base level 5)
    • Epilepsy (Evidence base level 5)
    • Learning disabilities
    • Autism and Asperger Syndrome
    • Depression
    • Anxiety and panic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, sleep disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome, traumatic brain injuries, fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndromes, migraines, autism, dementia, tic disorders as Tourette Syndrome, Parkinson Disease, Lyme disease and can be treated as well.

Neurofeedback is a new treatment option for the above-mentioned disorders to achieve rapid and permanent changes in the areas of cognition, behavioral problems, affective regulation, and social adaptation and function.

What Does A Neurofeedback Session Look Like?

The patient is sitting relaxed in front of a screen. The activity of the brain waves is recorded by means of sensors (EEG recording) and displayed graphically by a computer program. The patient is given various tasks in order to change the brain waves. The brain receives information about its activity and learns to optimize it by means of feedback that is perceived via images, videos, sound etc.

    How Does Neurofeedback Work?

The patient's brain waves are recorded using an EEG. A special computer program divides the brain waves into frequency ranges and analysis them. Depending on the clinical picture, certain pathological patterns of brain activity are recognized, and the patient is given appropriate feedback. There are many different forms of feedback such as films, tones, games, etc. The patient should learn to encourage certain activities or suppress others. The patient uses this to train his brain until the desired pattern occurs and the symptoms are improved.

The feedback is based on the principle of so-called operant conditioning. This means: The feedback given to the patient is a reward if the patient succeeds in activating certain areas of the brain in such a way that they generate the desired brain activity. Our brain wants to be rewarded as often as possible. It tries to permanently recognize and understand the patterns hidden in the feedback in order to receive a reward as often as possible. This process happens completely unconsciously, without active intervention by the patient and without medication.

    What Are Brain Waves?

In a raw EEG brain activity is divided by frequencies: GAMMA greater than 30(Hz) BETA (13-30Hz), ALPHA (8-12 Hz), THETA (4-8 Hz), and DELTA (less than 4 Hz). Faster waves are needed to complete a complex task, slower waves are seen when relaxing or sleeping. However, brain waves always appear as a mix. Imbalances can cause disorders such as being nervous or anxious when too many fast waves are seen in the EEG.

    eeg electroencephalography dubai

WHAT IS AN EEG (Electroencephalogram) / QEEG (Quantitative EEG, Brain mapping)?

An EEG is a scientific method for recording brain waves as described above. The brain waves are reordered via surface electrodes placed on the scalp. The locations of the electrodes are defined by the 10-20 system. The graphic visualization over time is called a raw EEG. It is the standard way to see multipole brain pathologies including seizures / epilepsy.

In a quantitative EEG the analysis process is extended by selecting and editing the best episodes of the raw EEG and comparing them to a database.

It is best practice to perform a qEEG before starting the actual Neurofeedback training. The qEEG visualizes the activity of the brain in different locations. These findings are matched with the client complaints (EEG biomarker match, QEEG Pro). Apart from reviewing the raw EEG data, the raw data – according to age, gender and handedness is getting compared to a normative database (Neuroguide, Dr. B. Thatcher - FDA approved database of adults and children). This scientific method produces comprehensive information about the distribution of brain activity, like a prism breaking light up into its constituent spectral colors. This is called a bitmap. Moreover, a LORETA will be performed (Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomographic analysis) which produces 3 dimensional images to find functional abnormalities in the deeper structures of the brain - similar to functional magnetic resonance (fMRI) of the brain. On top of this, a clinical Q analysis (Dr. Paul Swingel) will be performed to compare amplitudes and ratios of brain activity.

    What Does Neurofeedback Feel Like?

You will feel an electro cap on your head, soft as you wear a bathing cap when going swimming. You sit in a comfortable chair which is adjusted towards your needs, to ensure that you feel comfortable and relaxed. The electro cap is connected to an amplifier that forwards the recorded signals to a computer who translates them. You will look onto a second monitor where your translated brainwaves will drive a game or a movie in real-time. Now the subconscious learning process starts as your brain figures out fast what it has to do to score in a game or to drive the movie (operant conditioning). Soon you will feel the difference as well, as brain fog disappears, you feel more concentrated, maybe as well a bit happier as when you came. You will see that your abilities either in competing or speed are increasing. The medical professional will sit direct next to you guaranteeing that the whole training starting from recoding sites of your head, collection of data, translation and rewarding of desirable brain activity is done at the highest professional standard. There is absolutely nothing to be concerned about or worried about.

Is Neurofeedback Effective And Scientifically Proven?

Neurofeedback is efficient for most clients with perceptible results. Neurofeedback training is a learning process; therefore, results are seen gradually over time. In about ten sessions you will already feel an improvement of your complaints. Most patients meet their treatment goals in 20 sessions, depending on their condition. Each session lasts approximately 60 minutes, which includes the hook-up, training homework assignments and discussion of session-to-session progress.

Neurofeedback is FDA approved, and meets the highest criteria for evidence-based neurofeedback practice. It has been cross validated by both PET and MRI, is used by Universities, Medical Centers, the US military, Research Institutes, etc. The hardware and software used for Neurofeedback in our Medical Center was designed and developed by one of the world leaders in brain research and neurofeedback.

    Is Neurofeedback Safe?

Neurofeedback is non-invasive and painless. No medication is administered. Therefore, Neurofeedback is known to be very safe. No severe side effects are reported in over 30 years of application. Neurofeedback is FDA approved for safety and efficiency.

    Can Children Do Neurofeedback?

Yes, Neurofeedback is safe and efficient for kids from 6 years onwards. Moreover, adolescents and adults of all age groups are treated with Neurofeedback.

How Many Neurofeedback Sessions Are Needed?

The number of sessions depends on the severity of symptoms and disorder. Each patient receives a customized treatment plan based on the individual case. As a first step, the patient will be thoroughly examined including a comprehensive anamnesis incl. present and past medical history, family history, current medication, physical and psychopathological examination. In a next step a qEEG will be performed. Based on the findings the treatment plan will we discussed with the patient. Usually the brain needs 20-40 training sessions to learn the new pattern> Depending on the performance of the individual it can me less or more sessions.

Stroke Risk Analysis (cardiovascular risk analysis)

One person is believed to suffer a stroke every hour in the UAE with 8,000 patients admitted to hospital because of the condition. As the incidence of stroke continues to grow it places a significant burden on the healthcare system. Worldwide stroke is the second leading cause of death for people above the age of 60; however, in the UAE, stroke patients are around 20 years younger than the worldwide average.

The checkup consists of 2 parts:

    Ultrasound

Stroke Check Up DubaiUltrasound to examine the blood vessels and the blood flow leading to the brain and in the brain itself. With this exploration the physician is able to determine arteriosclerotic plaques or constrictions. Thus making it possible to check on the blood supply of the brain and prevent bursting of the plaques by medical or surgical intervention to avoid stroke or other blood vessel based deterioration. IMT (INTIMA MEDIA THICKNESS) means the Duplex sonographical picturing of the thickness of the arterial vascular wall, especially the inner layer (Intima), and rating the thickness of the intima media (INTIMA MEDIA THICKNESS).
IMT allows a very early determination of a generalized arteriosclerosis which may lead to ischaemic attacks or even stroke or heart infarction. This method is able to supply important information for the early diagnosis of an increased risk of stroke or heart failure.

    Risk calculation

Risk calculation based on the 2013 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Assessment of Cardiovascular Risk. Stroke specialists will carry out an individual stroke risk calculation estimating the ten-year risk and lifetime risk of having a stroke. The following laboratory results (Total Cholesterol, HDL-Cholesterol) are necessary for the calculation. Either you bring them with you or we will do the test in the clinic.

Based on the results the physician will discuss any specific treatment or lifestyle changes that may be necessary. Major lifestyle issues that can lead to stroke include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking and obesity. Link

Prof. Dr. med D. Claus said, "’stroke is a huge health concern across the globe and here in the UAE we see a greater number of cases linked to the already high incidence of obesity and cardiovascular disease, as well as lifestyle factors including poor diet and lack of exercise. The test is a quick and painless way of establishing risk and allowing us to determine a suitable action plan. ‘What most people don’t realize is that as many as 70% of strokes could be avoided by preventative measures."’

70% of strokes could be avoided by preventative measures

We recently welcomed Professor Dr. med Ringelstein to our neurology team. Prof. Ringelstein is a Board Member of the German Stroke Society and was part of the accreditation team for the dedicated stroke unit at Rashid Hospital, the only unit outside the EU to be awarded an international accreditation.

    NCV (Nerve Conduction Velocity)

Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) is a diagnostic test that measures the speed at which electrical impulses travel through nerves in the body. The test is used to evaluate the function of the peripheral nervous system, which includes the nerves that connect the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. The Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test involves placing electrodes on the skin over the nerves being tested. A small electrical current is then applied to the nerve, and the resulting electrical activity is recorded by the electrodes. The time it takes for the electrical impulse to travel between the electrodes is measured, and this measurement is used to calculate the nerve conduction velocity. The Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test can provide valuable diagnostic information for a range of neurological conditions, including peripheral neuropathies, carpal tunnel syndrome, and radiculopathies. The test can help to identify the location and extent of nerve damage, as well as to monitor the progression of these conditions over time.In addition to clinical applications, NCV testing is also used in research to study the function of the peripheral nervous system and its responses to injury or disease. Researchers have used NCV testing to investigate the effects of various medications and substances on nerve function, as well as to study the plasticity of the nervous system in response to injury or rehabilitation. The Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test has several advantages over other methods of assessing nerve function, such as electromyography (EMG). It is non-invasive, quick, and easy to perform, and does not require the patient to actively participate or provide feedback. The NCV test is also highly sensitive to changes in nerve function, which makes it a valuable tool for detecting subtle abnormalities in the peripheral nervous system. However, there are some limitations to the NCV test that should be considered. The test can be affected by factors such as age, gender, and the presence of other medical conditions, which can lead to variability in results. Additionally, the test may not be suitable for patients with certain neurological conditions, such as peripheral neuropathies caused by immune system dysfunction, which may require additional testing.Overall, the Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test is a valuable tool for assessing nerve function in a variety of clinical and research settings. Its non-invasive nature and sensitivity to changes in nerve function make it a valuable complement to other methods of evaluating nerve function, and a useful tool for diagnosing and monitoring a range of neurological conditions.

    AEP (Acoustically Evoked Potentials)

Acoustically Evoked Potentials (AEPs) are a non-invasive diagnostic test that measures the electrical activity generated by the brain in response to auditory stimuli. AEP testing is commonly used to evaluate the auditory pathways in patients with neurological or auditory disorders, as well as to assess the auditory function in infants and young children who may not be able to communicate their hearing experience. The Acoustically Evoked Potentials (AEPs) test involves placing electrodes on the scalp of the patient, typically over the temporal cortex, which is the part of the brain responsible for processing auditory information. The patient is then presented with auditory stimuli, such as clicks or tones, while the electrodes record the electrical activity generated by the brain in response to the stimuli. The Acoustically Evoked Potentials (AEPs) test can provide valuable diagnostic information for a range of auditory and neurological conditions, including hearing loss, auditory processing disorders, and multiple sclerosis. The test can also be used to monitor the progression of these conditions over time, and to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment interventions. In addition to clinical applications, AEP testing is also used in research to study the auditory system and its functions. Researchers have used AEPs to study auditory perception, attention, and memory, as well as to investigate the effects of various medications and substances on the auditory system. The AEP test has several advantages over other methods of assessing auditory function, such as pure-tone audiometry or speech audiometry. It is non-invasive, quick, and easy to perform, and does not require the patient to actively participate or provide verbal feedback. The AEP test is also highly sensitive to changes in auditory function, which makes it a valuable tool for detecting subtle abnormalities in the auditory system. However, there are some limitations to the AEP test that should be considered. The test can be affected by factors such as age, gender, and the presence of other medical conditions, which can lead to variability in results. Additionally, the test may not be suitable for patients with certain neurological conditions, such as epilepsy, due to the risk of inducing seizures.Overall, the Acoustically Evoked Potentials (AEPs) test is a valuable tool for assessing auditory function in a variety of clinical and research settings. MEP (Magnetic-Evoked Potentials)

Magnetic-evoked potentials (MEPs) are a type of neurophysiological test that is used to evaluate the function of the central nervous system. MEPs use a magnetic stimulator to deliver a brief, high-intensity magnetic pulse to a specific area of the brain or spinal cord. The resulting electrical activity is then recorded from electrodes placed on the scalp or muscles, providing information about the integrity and function of the motor pathways.MEPs are commonly used in both clinical and research settings to assess a range of neurological conditions, including multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal cord injury, and neuromuscular disorders. MEPs can help to identify areas of the brain or spinal cord that are affected by disease or injury, as well as monitor changes in function over time. The magnetic stimulator used in MEP testing is similar to that used in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which is a technique that can be used to non-invasively stimulate the brain. However, while TMS is typically used to induce changes in brain activity that can be measured using techniques such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), MEPs are focused specifically on the motor system.During MEP testing, the magnetic pulse is typically delivered over the motor cortex, which is the part of the brain that controls voluntary movement. The resulting electrical activity is then recorded using surface electrodes placed on the scalp or muscles. The amplitude and latency of the resulting response can provide information about the integrity of the motor pathways, as well as the excitability of the neurons involved.MEPs can be used to assess a range of motor functions, including muscle strength, reaction time, and coordination. They can also be used to monitor changes in function over time, making them a useful tool for tracking disease progression and treatment outcomes. In addition to their clinical applications, MEPs are also widely used in neuroscience research. MEPs can be used to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying motor learning and plasticity, as well as to study the effects of drugs and other interventions on the motor system.Overall, magnetic-evoked potentials are a valuable tool for assessing the function of the motor system in both clinical and research settings. By providing a non-invasive way to stimulate and measure neural activity, MEPs can help to identify areas of dysfunction and monitor changes in function over time. As technology continues to advance, it is likely that MEP testing will become even more widely used in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.

    SSR (Sympathetic Skin Response)

Sympathetic Skin Response (SSR) is a physiological measurement used to assess the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the "fight or flight" response in the body. The SSR is a non-invasive measurement that involves recording the electrical activity of sweat glands in the skin, which are controlled by the sympathetic nervous system. The SSR measurement is typically performed using electrodes placed on the skin of the hand or foot, which are connected to a recording device. The patient is then exposed to a stimulus, such as a loud noise or a sudden movement, which causes an involuntary response from the sympathetic nervous system. This response is detected by the electrodes as a change in the electrical activity of the sweat glands, and is recorded as an SSR.The SSR measurement is used in a variety of clinical settings, including neurology, psychiatry, and pain management. It is commonly used to evaluate autonomic function in patients with conditions such as Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and spinal cord injuries. SSR measurements can also be used to evaluate the effects of medications on the sympathetic nervous system, such as antidepressants and antipsychotics. In addition to clinical applications, SSR measurements are also used in research to study the sympathetic nervous system and its role in various physiological and psychological processes. For example, researchers have used SSR measurements to study the effects of stress on the sympathetic nervous system, as well as the role of the sympathetic nervous system in chronic pain conditions. The SSR measurement has several advantages over other methods of assessing sympathetic nervous system activity, such as heart rate variability or blood pressure measurements. It is non-invasive, quick, and easy to perform, and does not require any special equipment. The SSR measurement is also highly sensitive to changes in sympathetic nervous system activity, which makes it a valuable tool for detecting subtle changes in autonomic function. However, there are some limitations to the SSR measurement that should be considered. The SSR response can be affected by factors such as skin temperature, humidity, and electrode placement, which can lead to variability in results. Additionally, some medications, such as anticholinergics and beta blockers, can affect the SSR response and may need to be temporarily discontinued before the measurement is taken.Overall, the SSR measurement is a valuable tool for assessing sympathetic nervous system activity in a variety of clinical and research settings. Its non-invasive nature and sensitivity to changes in autonomic function make it a valuable complement to other methods of evaluating sympathetic nervous system activity.

    Laboratory diagnostics

Outpatient neurological clinics and laboratories often work together to provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for patients with neurological conditions. The clinic may refer patients to the laboratory for testing, and the laboratory may provide diagnostic information to the clinic to help guide treatment.Neurological clinics provide a range of services to patients with neurological conditions, such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease. Clinics may offer diagnostic testing, such as electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies, electroencephalography (EEG), and imaging tests such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans. They may also provide treatment services, such as medication management, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.Laboratories, on the other hand, specialize in analyzing specimens, such as blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and tissue samples. Neurological laboratories may perform a variety of tests, including genetic testing, immunological assays, and biomarker analysis, to help diagnose and monitor neurological conditions. Laboratory tests can provide important information about a patient's condition, such as the presence of inflammation or abnormal proteins, which can help guide treatment decisions.

The relationship between an outpatient neurological clinic and laboratory may involve several key steps:

    1. Referral: A patient may be referred to a laboratory for diagnostic testing by their neurologist or other healthcare provider at the clinic.
    2. Testing: The laboratory will perform the necessary tests and provide diagnostic information to the clinic, which can help guide treatment decisions.
    3. Treatment: Based on the diagnostic information provided by the laboratory, the clinic may develop a treatment plan for the patient. This may include medications, therapy, or other interventions.
    4. Follow-up: The clinic may continue to monitor the patient's condition over time, and may refer the patient back to the laboratory for additional testing if necessary.
Effective communication between the clinic and laboratory is essential for ensuring that patients receive the appropriate care. Clinics and laboratories may use electronic health records (EHRs) to share patient information securely and efficiently. They may also collaborate to develop protocols for ordering and interpreting laboratory tests to ensure that they are used appropriately and effectively.Overall, the collaboration between an outpatient neurological clinic and laboratory is essential for providing high-quality diagnostic and treatment services to patients with neurological conditions. By working together, these healthcare providers can ensure that patients receive the care they need to manage their condition and improve their quality of life.

It’s used for many forms of acute and chronic pain. Two electrodes are place on the skin and connected to a unit. The unit generates electricity and passes it truth the electrode in the affected area of the body. There are different theories how TENS works. Some suggest that the electricity inhibits interneurons, nerve cells transmitting pain sensations. Others suggest that it has a similar effect as acupuncture. Moreover it is discussed that TENS triggers the release of opiates and thus reducing the pain. By controlling the electrical pulse rate, pulse width, pulse wave the specific pain nerves are targeted. The intensity depends on the patient it should be strong but not painful itself.

By breaking the vicious circle – pain – muscle spasm – impaired movement and posture – pain – TENS reliefs the most common forms of pain. It is easy to apply and shows fast results.

    Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy (OT) is a type of healthcare profession that helps people of all ages achieve their goals and participate in the activities that are meaningful to them. Occupational therapists work with individuals who may have physical, developmental, cognitive, or emotional disabilities, or who are recovering from injury or illness. The main goal of occupational therapy is to help people live as independently as possible by focusing on their abilities, not their disabilities. Occupational therapists use a variety of techniques and interventions to help clients achieve their goals, including:

Psychotherapy in Dubai - Find the Best Psychotherapist in Dubai, UAE

Psychotherapy is therapeutic interaction or treatment contracted between a trained professional and a client, patient, family, couple, or group. Simply, psychotherapy is a general term for treating mental health problems by talking with a psychiatrist, psychologist or other mental health provider. During psychotherapy, one hopes to learn about their condition and moods, feelings, thoughts and behaviors, how to take control of one’s life and respond to challenging situations with healthy coping skills. The problems addressed are psychological in nature and can vary in terms of their causes, influences, triggers, and potential resolutions. Accurate assessment of these and other variables depends on the practitioner’s capability and can change or evolve as the practitioner acquires experience, knowledge, and insight.

Difference Between Psychiatrist, Psychologist & Psychotherapist

Is a Psychologist the same as a Psychiatrist? What’s the difference between a clinical Psychologist or a Counsellor? What’s the difference between a Psychologist and a clinical psychologist? For non-medicals this is difficult to answer. No worry, we choose the best treatment options for your individual case. Our team in Dubai consists of all different kinds of specialties: Psychiatrists, Psychotherapists, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, Counsellors, marriage counsellors, etc. They work in an interdisciplinary team closer together and discuss cases internally. This way, you can be sure to receive the best treatment option for your exact problem.

Interdisciplinary also means that you may be treated by a team of different specialists. If, for instance, you are in regular therapy with a psychologist, clinical psychologists or counsellor but temporarily need medication additionally to the cognitive behavioral therapy: The psychologist or counsellor will involve the psychiatrist who will prescribe the necessary medication.

Or If you're looking for a neurologist in Dubai, psychiatrist in Dubai, psychologist in Dubai or a psychotherapist in Dubai, we have one of the best doctors to help you recover.

    Talent Optimization

Talent identification and talent optimization are important topics in the world of sports, music and business. It has been proven that practice leads to better accomplishments and that, due to practice otherwise known as deliberate practice, actual changes occur in the brain. This fact has become known as the ’10 year rule’: training or practicing during the course of a period of 10 years cause a significant improvement in accomplishments and with that also changes in brain tissue. However, if all team members live and train in the same context i.e. each following the same amount of training time as well as the same eating pattern and each spend equal amounts of time sleeping, how is it possible that one member achieves a higher level of performance than the other?

How it possible is that one member achieves a higher level of performance than the other?

Talent is the explanation for why some achieve more than others (under the same learning conditions). Top-talents present with an extraordinarily high standard of cognitive skills, primarily in the areas of visual information processing speed and working-memory. Aside from these cognitive skills, the motivational profile of these top-talents is of equal importance. They have certain personality traits at their disposal which enable excellent achievements. In combining excellent cognitive skills with a specific motivational profile, the chances of success are increased.

    How to identify talent?

Identifying and optimizing top-talent is a unique process in which clinical neuropsychology seems to be gaining a role of ever increasing importance.

To belong to the best in the world and to be able to compete with them, several ingredients can be extracted from the nature-nurture discussion which seem essential in predicting success. Although many hours of specific training focused on changing brain tissue are necessary to achieve a certain skill, it seems that intellectual, cognitive and congenital characteristics play an equally important part. Neuropsychological research demonstrates this point, using cognitive tests, questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. When people with certain skills (talent) are selected, a training programme should be carried out which will support optimal development of brain tissue, which in turn will optimize the functionality of the skill system being trained. With this in mind one should base ones conclusions on the principles of scientific literature on learning. A clinical talent identification and talent optimization neuropsychologist can be deployed when identifying and optimizing talent as well as composing a specific team culture and aligning different characters to form the most desirable combination for a top-class team.

    How to optimize talent?

We used the above mentioned theoretical knowledge in West-Europe and they proved to be very effective. Since recently, these concepts are also implemented in the UAE:

    • Various sports teams in West-Europe: soccer first teams and youth teams (Chelsea, Swansea, ADO Den Haag, PEC Zwolle, AZ Alkmaar, Anderlecht / Brussels), Dutch Olympic swimming team, Dutch Olympic basketball team, Swiss professional ice hockey team, Dutch professional ice skating team, international MMA / boxing competitors, BMX, golf and tennis): talent identification and optimisation on both individual and team level. After implementing the techniques, the players performed better at individual level and the teams ranked significantly higher.

    • Various gifted talents in music: piano (Imola Music School) and harp: talent identification. The neuropsychological measurements turned out to have predictive value and identified who would reach world class level.

    • Various high level business: engineering, education, law enforcement, etc.: talent identification and optimization. We were hired to identify the individuals with high potential and restructure their organizations to optimize the functioning on both individual and team level.

Benefits of Marriage Counseling in Dubai

One of the key benefits of couple and marriage Counseling is that it is completely confidential. This means that you can discuss your problems and feelings freely and openly, without fear of judgment or criticism. This is especially important for couples who may be dealing with sensitive or difficult issues, such as infidelity or abuse.

Another important benefit of couples therapy is that it can help couples to learn new communication and problem-solving skills. Many couples find that they have difficulty expressing their feelings or understanding each other's perspectives, and the therapy can help them to develop more effective ways of communicating.

This can include learning how to listen actively, how to express feelings in a healthy way, and how to compromise and negotiate when there is a disagreement.

Couple Counseling can also help couples to identify and address the underlying issues that may be causing problems in their relationship. For example, if a couple is struggling with financial stress, a therapist may help them to identify the root cause of the problem and develop a plan to address it.

Similarly, if a couple is experiencing infidelity, a therapist may help them to understand why it happened and how to prevent it from happening again in the future.

For couples who are dealing with more serious problems, such as abuse or addiction, Couples therapy can provide a safe and supportive environment to help them work through these issues.

A therapist can help couples to understand the dynamics of the abuse and how to stay safe, as well as how to work through the trauma and develop a plan to move forward.

Is Marriage Counseling Right For You?

It is important to note that marriage Counseling is not just for couples who are experiencing problems or conflicts. It is also beneficial for couples who want to improve their relationship and strengthen their bond. Regular relationship Counseling sessions can help couples to prevent problems from developing and ensure that they are on the same page when it comes to their goals, values, and expectations.

It can also be helpful for couples who are going through major life changes, such as having a baby, buying a house, or dealing with the loss of a loved one. These changes can put a lot of stress on a relationship and a couples counselor can help navigate through these difficult times.

    Alternative Approaches in Dubai

In addition to traditional Relationship Counseling, there are also a number of alternative approaches in Dubai. For example, some therapists may use mindfulness or meditation techniques to help couples develop greater awareness of their thoughts and feelings. Others may use art or music therapy to help couples express themselves in new ways.

    Finding the Right Therapist

Ultimately, the key to a successful couples therapy in Dubai is finding the right therapist for you and your partner. A good therapist will be someone who is experienced, compassionate, and non-judgmental, and who is able to help you work through your problems in a way that feels comfortable and supportive.

If you are considering therapy for your relationship, it is important to do your research and find a therapist who is well-suited to your needs. You can start by asking friends or family members for recommendations, or by looking online for reviews and ratings of different therapists in your area.

Dr. Letizia Cardelli – Marriage Counselor in Dubai

Dr. Letizia is an Italian Board Certified Psychologist and specialized in systemic marriage and couple counselling. Systemic marriage and couple counselling is a type of therapy that focuses on the relationship dynamics between partners, rather than individual problems. The therapist aims to help couples understand how they interact with each other and how their behavior affects the relationship. By exploring these patterns of behavior and communication, the couple can gain insight into what needs to change for their relationship to thrive.

One of the key benefits of systemic marriage and couple counselling is that it can help couples to resolve conflicts in a safe and supportive environment. Through the guidance of the therapist, couples can learn new ways of communicating and find effective solutions to their problems. This can lead to a stronger, more stable relationship and a more fulfilling life for both partners.

Another benefit of systemic marriage and couple counselling is that it can help to prevent the breakdown of relationships. By addressing problems early on, couples can avoid the negative impact that can come from unresolved conflicts and misunderstandings. This can help to preserve the love and commitment that brought the couple together in the first place.

      BioFeedback

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) biofeedback is psycho- physiological measurement (Heart Rate-ECG, Blood Pressure, and Respiration) to diagnose autonomic regulation, stress resistance, cardiovascular health, and vitality in persons. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) means changes in the interval or distance between one beat of the heart and the next. The interbeat interval (IBI) is the time between one R-wave (or heart beat) and the next, in milliseconds. The IBI is highly variable within any given time period. HRV is analyzed in two ways, either over time (Time Domain) or in terms of the frequency of changes in Heart Rate (Frequency Domain).

HRV biofeedback training is a special technique for training individuals to change their variability as well as dominant heart rhythms in cardiovascular activity in order to increase their vitality and health. HRV biofeedback is applied to a variety of medical and psychiatric conditions such as: anger, anxiety disorders, stress disorder, depression, asthma, cardiovascular problems, or chronic fatigue. Biofeedback training suites for individuals who would like to increase the percentage of total HRV (vitality) by proper breathing exercises in order to adjust their “resonant frequency” and, thus, generate autonomic balance of the nervous system between sympathetic and parasympathetic tone.

Each individual has a “resonant frequency” at which heart rate variability is the greatest and the most vital for their organism. This “resonant frequency” is measured by HRV biofeedback instruments and it is a training of the heart rhythm by respiration called Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA). This “resonant frequency” is mostly produced by persons in a relaxed mental state, with a positive emotional stage, and especially by diaphragmatic breathing at a rate of about 5-7 breaths per minute. Thus, individuals in HRV biofeedback training are directly taught to increasing their HRV parameters and, consequently, improve their mental health, vitality, autonomic balance.

Neurofeedback – also called EEG-Biofeedback – is a scientifically proven computer-aided brain training to improve certain functions of the brain. Patients learn to change their own brain waves to enhance certain skills, such as concentration, memory, top performance, creativity, relaxation, etc. At the German Neuroscience Center Dubai, we are offering the highest quality Neurofeedback treatment with the leading Neurofeedback experts in the region.

    • Background

Whereas usually everybody accepts the fact that illness is normal and happens to everyone from time to time, normal illnesses are most often considered to be solely physical such as a broken leg, colds, diarrhoea or similar.

Since more than 10 years GNC is the leading Neurology Clinic in Dubai, with the best Psychiatrists in Dubai, Psychologists in Dubai, and psychotherapy in Dubai, UAE.

The German Neuroscience Center is hosting free support groups for teenagers in the UAE. The format is designed to provide a confidential environment for teens between 12 and 18 years old to discuss and to learn how to deal with issues of life, stress in school or at home, negative feelings, frustration, issues of self-esteem and other challenges.

Largest cause of the burden of disease among young people

The World Health Organization (WHO) cites mental health problems - in particular depression - as the largest cause of the burden of disease among young people. According to statistics shared by Young Minds in the United Kingdom:

    • 1 in 10 children and young people aged 5 to 16 suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder.

    • The number of young people aged 15 to 16 with depression nearly doubled between the 1980s and the 2000s.

    • Nearly 80,000 children and young people suffer from severe depression.

    • More than half of all adults with mental health problems were diagnosed in childhood.

The meetings will be led by American Board certified psychologist Fadwa L. Lkorchy, from German Neuroscience Center, who believes that both children and parents are in need of more help to cope with common issues facing families. She explains:

‘’teen mental health is a huge concern, especially as incidences of depression, self-harm and suicide are all on the increase amongst adolescents."

"Whilst teens face similar issues all over the world, such as academic pressure, bullying, sexuality and online safety, they are exacerbated in a place like the UAE where a mix of cultural values can make it even harder to establish an identity and achieve a sense of freedom.’’She adds: ‘’It is vital to tackle these problems early on and equip children with the necessary coping mechanisms to help them deal with pressure, in order to minimise problems like depression later on. Many parents have told us they want their teens to have somewhere to go for the kind of impartial help and advice they cannot get at home.’’

    Free Bipolar Support Group Dubai

Bipolar Patient launches free Support Group with the help of award-winning Psychiatrist, Prof Dr Wolfgang Maier, at the German Neuroscience Center Dubai.A new support group is being launched in Dubai to help people who have Bipolar disorder. One female resident, who prefers to remain anonymous, approached the clinic in a bid to give others somewhere to share their struggles and discuss their experiences. The support group will be attended by psychiatrist Professor Wolfgang Maier, one of Europe’s most eminent experts in the field. The 36-year-old sufferer explains: “I first realised that I had a mental health disorder after one of my children were born, and I felt like I was losing my grasp on the world around me. Initially, Bipolar had a hugely negative impact on my personal and professional life, isolating me from colleagues, friends, and family. Slowly, I have beat the condition and rebuilt my life with the right treatment and by surrounding myself with positivity. Now, my aim is to show other people in the same situation that they can do the same.”Professor Maier, a psychiatrist at the German Neuroscience Center explains: “Bipolar is a brain disorder that causes dramatic shifts in mood, energy and activity levels, making it difficult to deal with everyday life. It is very challenging, and it often goes undiagnosed or untreated making it harder to control. As well as establishing the right diagnosis and treatment, talking to people in the same situation can be very beneficial. There seems to be an especially high propensity of Bipolar in the region, yet there is a lack of support groups available, so we hope this will provide somewhere safe and informal for people to address their feelings”.The free Bipolar support group is being held at the German Neuroscience Center in Jumeirah Lakes Towers.
