This examination is used for the early detection of dementia processes when non-specific memory disorders occur, or unusual obliviousness or if there is a family history of dementia.
“Am I only forgetting things or do I already suffer from Alzheimer’s disease?” “Some members of my family are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. How likely is it that I will also get this disease?”
Questions such as these are often asked and can be discussed when carrying out the dementia screening. At best baseless fears will be remedied, at worst early steps can be taken (e.g. training the cognitive functions of the brain) or medical intervention to avoid or to allay any vascular dementia processes. Even with Alzheimer’s disease there is a range of possibilities to slow down the process.
