You won’t believe it: Psychotherapy is effective in Epilepsy treatment. Seriously, it is!

The most complicated form of epilepsy is called drug-resistant epilepsy. Meaning, the drugs doctors normally use to treat epilepsy are not working. Now researchers at the University of Hong Kong and the University of Melbourne found out that psychotherapy (mindfulness-based) and social support are beneficial for these kind of patients. Mindfulness therapy was associated with greater benefits than SS alone.

Psychotherapy could reduce the seizure frequency, improve cognitive functions, Depression, Anxiety and quality of life.

The study was published in the medical journal “Neurology”.
